X-Ray Technician

Role: Radiographer / X-Ray Technician Purpose

To ensure accurate image acquisition, safe handling of radiological equipment, and seamless coordination with teleradiology services for timely reporting and patient care.

Key Responsibilities1. Imaging & Patient Care

• Perform X-ray procedures as per physician/radiologist instructions.
• Ensure correct patient identification before imaging.
• Position patients appropriately to obtain optimal diagnostic images.
• Maintain patient dignity, comfort, and safety during procedures.

2. Teleradiology Workflow Compliance

• Ensure high-quality images are captured and uploaded to PACS/teleradiology platform.
• Verify completeness of patient data before sharing images.
• Coordinate with teleradiologist for urgent/emergency reporting.
• Assist radiologist (onsite/remote) during special procedures when required.
• Ensure timely dispatch of reports to OPD/IPD/emergency departments.

3. Equipment Maintenance & Safety

• Responsible for safety, upkeep, and routine maintenance of all radiology equipment.
• Maintain equipment logbooks with updated records (usage, breakdown, servicing).
• Liaise with biomedical/maintenance teams to minimize equipment downtime.
• Ensure proper functioning of X-ray machines, processors, and accessories.

4. Radiation Safety & Compliance

• Strictly follow radiation protection protocols (ALARA principles).
• Use appropriate shielding devices for patients and staff.
• Monitor and ensure compliance with regulatory radiation safety norms.
• Ensure safe handling and disposal of radiographic chemicals (e.g., fixers).

5. Department Management

• Maintain cleanliness and organization of X-ray room at all times.
• Ensure availability and cleanliness of patient gowns, bed sheets, and accessories.
• Prepare and manage X-ray envelopes and documentation.
• Maintain daily department statistics and workload records.

6. Inventory & Consumables Management

• Place timely indents for films, consumables, and departmental supplies.
• Collect supplies from stores and ensure proper stock levels.
• Monitor usage to prevent shortages or wastage.

7. Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain accurate records of all imaging procedures.
• Ensure proper labeling and identification of radiographs.
• Dispatch reported images and reports to concerned departments promptly.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient data at all times.
